iQiyi is formerly known as Qiyi. It is an Online video Platform headquartered in Beijing, China. Present, iQiyi is the china’s largest online video site which serves each month they spent 6 billion plus hours and having 500 million active users. Qiyi is an largest online search engine service in China. In 2011, they changed their name to iQiyi and then acquired license for ‘Transformers – Dark of the Moon’ in China from Paramount. In 2012, Baidu company bought the Providence’s stake and they took full ownership of the website, for their video business baidu acquired PPstream Inc. for $370 million dollars.
In 2014, they began film with there iQiyi Motion picture productions and expanded their film projects to overseas. After few days iQiyi collaborated with Venice Film festival to streaming festival’s movies in online. In 2014, iQiyi generated 6.95+ billion hrs of viewers on its site and also they signed to take the rights of 100+ south korean titles in Busan Film Festival. In the same year Shunwei and Xiaomi spent $300 million dollars in iQiyi for 10-15% of the site.
iQiyi acquired the copyrights of 8 entertainment shows in China and also in South Korea, Taiwan. In 2017, Netflix announced that making a licensed deal with iQiyi.
